Buddhism and Modern Management

As a doctrine of universal-inclusive, Buddhism must be able to answer and provide alternative solutions to various problems of life such as a society, nation and state. Like the issue of humanity, culture, gender, environment, free market, economic, political, social, educational, health, human rights and other global issues. Because of those issues, it requires a balance between the spiritual and intellectual in the actualization of dharma. With spirituality, the people become more sensitive to feel those problems. While, with the intellectuality we are able to analyze the root of problems and find its alternative solutions.
Alternative solution which proposed must be match with the actual condition, and fully with the noble values of Buddhism. Therefore, it’s requires serious and deeply assessment to that problem. The results of these studies can also be a guide to think and act for Buddhists in particular. In parallel, to support it in the required human resource capacity development, both through education, training and preparation of supra-infra-structure, including networking.
Buddhism should be able to use science in order to harmonize the existing development at this time. Management that teaches us to make the planning, implementation, organize and control in achieving goals. With regard to the future development of Buddhists there are a few things that need to get our serious attention.
Development of Buddhism should be well planned, not sporadic and partial. Sect ego must be minimized in order to progress us together. At least there are three pillars that must be considered in developing the future of Buddhism. First, contextual Dharma teaching. Second, greater attention to formal education, informal, and non formal. And the third is the humanity as a form of universal compassion, for the happiness of all beings.
The monastery was built as a means to gather, repeating the Buddha's sermon it’s function can be optimized. For example, for the development of education, the center of economic potential community development, conservation and development center of culture. The monastery also has to be managed transparently, so that not only monks that belonging its monastery, but also the lay people.
The lay people and the monks must support each other, so that the lay people can get spiritual guidance, while the monks can run his/her spiritual live and serve the people wholeheartedly, without distinction. We need to think the education for the monks to increase their capacity. In order to make them can provide services with the ease we need to think about their family insurance (cost of living, education, health). Allowances also should be given to the monks to make them can communicate with people in the context of Sangha. Similarly, transport facilities must be met from the Sangha. It is better for the monks to have health insurance. Thus, by fulfilling all the needs of monks, they can perform their holy life seriously, no troubled with family problems that have been left behind.
The development of Buddhism is not only a duty and responsibility of the monks. The priest, lay people-lay people also has a large role in building the future Buddhists. Therefore it is need a clear coordination between each party that what is done can mutually support one another. Speaking about funds, it is need a big heart of monks or Sangha to do proportional share to the court other than monks dharma by giving them full support.
With regard to the funds should be big heart on the monks /sangha for a proportional share to the court other than monks dharma.
Conclusion
With good teaching and supporting infrastructure, the presence of Buddhists should be able to encourage better social change. To make development strategy of the Buddhist community it is required an in-depth study of the contextual conditions of the joint life of the nation, with the Dharma as a scalpel, while prioritizing the role and function of intellectuals. So “the earth values” of Dharma can give benefit to the people and give the handle for the Buddhist community to endeavor in the life of the community, nation and state.
